Our What & Why

Our Vision

Empowering the future of music

Our Mission

The Lou Gramm Foundation is a United States Internal Revenue Service-determined 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the transformative power of music education through grants and advocacy initiatives. Our mission is to provide financial assistance to talented music students and to raise awareness of the importance of music education. By removing barriers to access and promoting the need for high-quality music programs, we are working to empower the next generation of musicians, artists, and leaders.

Our organization is resolute in providing grants to deserving music students who are committed to pursuing a formal education at the collegiate level. We seek individuals who possess an unwavering passion for music and performance, exhibiting the potential to establish themselves as both successful recording artists and touring musicians.  Interested candidates must submit their application well before the deadline, with all applicants being evaluated on their unique strengths and abilities. We value transparency and fairness, offering every applicant the chance to reapply annually.  Grant recipients who complete their education can apply for additional financial assistance towards recording costs, with their selection being based on their collective progress, as determined by the foundation's stringent criteria.

Studies have shown that exposure to music education can have a profound impact on a student’s cognitive development and students who participate in music programs have increased brain development, higher IQ scores, and improved language and reading skills. Additionally, music education has been shown to improve social-emotional skills, such as teamwork and self-discipline, and can foster a sense of community and belonging.  Despite the overwhelming evidence of the benefits of music education, many schools face challenges in providing these programs due to budget cuts and other competing priorities. Our non-profit is committed to supporting and advocating for increased music education to help students overcome these obstacles and find success.

We are committed to using donations efficiently and responsibly.  The greatest legacy of the Lou Gramm Foundation will be the impact it has on the lives of the young people it serves. As these students become professional musicians, they will carry with them the lessons they have learned through music: the importance of discipline, the power of collaboration, and the beauty of creativity.  It’s time to Turn the music up!

The grant application deadline is June 30th, 2023 for this fiscal year.
